DIFFER Kick off meeting

The DIFFER project was officially launched after a two-day kick-off workshop in Mombasa, Kenya. From Wednesday 12 October to Friday 14 October representatives of the six partner agencies gathered in Mombasa to discuss the project and plan the activities of the first 18-months. The work shop was followed by a public launching event inviting key Kenyan stakeholders.

The DIFFER kick off workshop comprised a combination of presentations and discussion sessions. Presentations were made of each partner agency, each of the four research sites, each project work package and key administrative issues. Discussion sessions concentrated around the main phases of the project: ‘understanding’, ‘implementing’, ‘evaluating’ and ‘disseminating’, and cross-cutting issues. Special attention was given to the development of a detailed timeline for the first 18 months of the project.

The work shop was followed by a public event organised by ICRH-Kenya, in which key Kenyan stakeholders, health service representatives and local female sex worker (FSW) peer educators participated. The DIFFER project was officially launched jointly by the Project Coordinator, Prof. Dr. Marleen Temmerman, the head of the Kenyan National AIDS and STI Control Programme and representatives of the local FSW community.
